Did I see you in the crowd at Tuesday's career workshop? Wasn't it great?!
Whether you were there or not, I still want to talk about it! Maggie Mistal’s name came to our BPW Board highly recommended
as a nationally known career coach and podcaster who happens to live right here
in our Upper Keys community. And she did not disappoint!
Maggie's approach for career exploration consists of three
parts:
- Soul search
- Research
- Job search
Soul search is one of my favorite things to do, although I
don’t always call it that. Probably what’s behind my obsession with self help
books that delve in to naming my passions, gifts and talents. In Maggie’s
process, we combined these with the work values and sectors that appeal the
most to create a unique purpose statement.
Here’s mine:
My purpose is to connect, support and inspire love and optimism, with
non-profit organizations dedicated to the environment and community (especially
women!).
A few of us read our purpose statements out loud and the energy in our voices was met by aahs, applause -- and even a few Amens -- from the rest of the room!
My
favorite take-away from the next stage of Maggie’s process, Research, was the
idea the power of “50 coffees”. No, not
that we ourselves drink 50 cups of coffee while surfing the internet alone!
Instead,
having strategic conversations with 50 different people about a goal we have can
bring all kinds of new information and energy to reaching it. And lucky for us,
we have 122 people in BPW at our fingertips to talk with!
The final step in Maggie’s process is the Job Search itself. A big ‘aha’ moment
in this part of the workshop was that not all of us actually have to find a new
job to love our job. The search can be inside of our current organization or
even within our current job. Thanks to this workshop, I realized that the job I’m currently in at REEF and my volunteer leadership role with BPW are both great fits for my unique purpose of supporting love and optimism with community non-profits. So I came up with a goal to pay more attention to the parts of my work that give me
energy, and track the opportunities I already have, including: - Talking with BPW members and others on our first Wednesday Coffee Chats, especially this month on the day after the election
- Meeting everyone at our monthly BPW events -- I can't wait for Friendsgiving lunch next week!
- And finally, I absolutely love sitting down every month to write to you, {Contact_First_Name}, and all the other 100+ members and 300+
other subscribers to our BPW email list!
How we help you love your job?

Have you heard? BPW is hiring!
Upper Keys BPW is seeking a freelance/contract worker
to help with ongoing administrative tasks for approximately 8 hours a month. (Training and how-to documentation will be provided.)
This opportunity is perfect for someone with strong administrative skills who can devote a couple of hours a week (on average) to assist with:
- Website content/event & email setup (no programming or coding required)
- Monthly membership reporting
- Social media support
- See complete details here
Ideally we would love a BPW member to take this on, but membership is not mandatory and the work can be done remotely. The most important requirement is that the individual be responsive, detail-oriented and reliable to get the work done on a timely basis! Interested, or know someone who might be? Download/share the request for proposal, and send any questions to bpwupperkeys@gmail.com. Thanks for helping us spread the word! ~~~~~~~~~

We did it... $10,000!
Last month we achieved our goal to raise $10,000 for the "Give Hope a Home" campaign. The funds will be donated to DAS and used to create a Business Center at the new domestic abuse shelter serving the Middle and Upper Keys. Survivors will have access to computers, internet access and supplies to help them find jobs, housing and more. A huge THANK YOU to the many donors who contributed to this worthy cause!
