COMMITTEE MEMBERS NEEDED!

If you would like to get more involved with Upper Keys BPW and get more value from your membership, consider joining or chairing a committee.


Scholarship Committee

Ensure our Upper Keys BPW Scholarship Program is effective in helping local women reach their educational and career goals by reviewing our overall program, encouraging women to apply, evaluating applications and supporting awardees. Activity level fluctuates, with moderate activity during the strategic review and award cycles and lighter (but sustained) activity between cycles. 

Scholarship Award Cycles
(mid-March to mid-May & mid-Aug to Mid-Oct)
  • Support for Committee Chair in communication with applicants
  • One or two committee meetings (in person or virtual) per cycle to review applications and make award decisions

Between Award Cycles
(mid-May to mid-Aug & mid-Oct to mid-Dec)

  • Promote the program to potential applicants and local institutions
  • Record accomplishments of awardees to publicize (in collaboration with Marketing Committee)

Membership Committee

Work with the VP of Membership to retain current members and attract new members. Activity is generally light but sustained throughout the year. We ask that committee members:

  • Attend at least 5-6 monthly events (could be less depending on size of committee).
  • Seek out, engage and introduce new members and guests at events (list provided in advance).
  • Assist with occasional outreach to members at risk of lapsing, ideally based on personal relationships (vs. cold calling).
  • Attend virtual committee meetings no more than once per quarter (max 1 hour, only as needed).
  • Solicit constructive feedback from members to share with committee. 
  • Assist in generating ideas for member engagement (primarily during virtual meetings).
  • Help spread the word about BPW in the community to attract new members.

Finance / Audit Committee

Help Upper Keys BPW maintain sound financial policies and procedures by serving on our Audit / Finance Committee.

Audit

Light activity takes place for around two months of the year. We ask members to commit to one or two committee meetings (in person or virtual) during this process. You will help to review the prior years' finances in the form of:

  • a sample of general ledger transactions 

  • bank statements

  •  supporting documentation for selected payments

Finance

The committee may continue to advise on ongoing financial strategy as needed.

Marketing Committee

Are you passionate about BPW? Interested in marketing and communications? Join the Upper Keys BPW Marketing Committee! (Professional marketing experience is not required.)

The Marketing Committee develops and implements plans to increase visibility of our events and programs, and promote the organization as a whole. Responsibilities include:

  • Publicizing BPW events (monthly lunches, social evenings and special events)
  • Supporting our programs, including our Adult Women's Scholarship Program and our annual Woman of the Year/Business of the Year awards
  • Helping the Membership Committee to attract new members and celebrate current members


Moderate to high activity takes place throughout the year (but more hands make lighter work!). We ask members to commit to monthly committee meetings (in person or virtual) and regular activity in one or more of these areas:

  • Updating website content and layout
  • Creating and sharing social media posts
  • Taking photos at events
  • Assisting with graphic design
  • Submitting event information to newspapers and online event directories
  • Preparing press releases
