I'll be honest, I don't think I ever heard Claudia Goldin's name before she won that big award this month. Had you?
But when I started reading about her, she sounded kind of familiar.
I wasn't surprised to learn she's had an amazing career in a male-dominated field, or that her most noteworthy work focuses on empowering women.
As so many accomplished women are, she seems to be a great mentor and supporter of other women in her field also.
Basically, Claudia Goldin seems like the kind of woman we'd want to celebrate, even if she hadn't gotten that world-famous prize...
...You know, the Nobel Prize for Economics!
I could write a whole newsletter about Claudia Goldin's contributions to understanding wage economics and the 'motherhood penalty'* but I'd rather tell you about the equally impressive women we have to celebrate right here in the Keys.
In recognition of National Women's Small Business Month, every October we work to raise the profile of women leaders and women-led business in the Upper Keys.
This year, four businesses and five individual Members received nominations for our Upper Keys BPW Woman of the Year and Business of the Year awards.
