The 3rd annual Swim Across America (SAA) - Florida Keys welcomes swimmers of all ages and skill levels to help us fight cancer in the Florida Keys with Miami Cancer Institute!

Join the Upper Keys BPW Team

The Upper Keys BPW has formed a team for the swim -- the BPW Splashers -- and we want YOU to join us! 

Many of us have been touched by cancer. This event in its third year in Islamorada's beautiful Founders Park beach is not about racing, and it doesn't take itself too seriously.

Swim Across America has local volunteers putting on this event that supports specifically research into Breast Cancer that has metastasized to the brain being conducted at the Miami Cancer Institute which is a world renowned facility that has saved lives over and over again, and it is part of the non-profit Baptist Health South Florida. Because it is volunteer-run by locals primarily in Islamorada that have been touched by cancer, 100% of the funds raised from this event go to this cancer research done here in Miami.

Our BPW team:

BPW Board Member Margie Smith is encouraging her BPW sisters and others to join her April 20th on the BPW team to fund cancer research, and be part of a larger project this year to get us out into the sunshine and out of our comfort zones--especially if we don't identify today as a swimmer or an athlete and open water swimming may be new to us despite where we live here in the Keys.

Join us for the experience of doing this as a team, as well as supporting cancer research. (Note: SAA is not enforcing a minimum donation for participation despite the wording on the website.)

You can pick whatever length of swim you want: 2 miles, 1 mile, half a mile or even 200 yards off this shallow beach and enjoy clear waters and plenty of creatures to see under the water. You can wear whatever you want including rashguards or swim fins.

This effort also falls under our priorities in the State BPW legislative Platform "Access to Healthcare for Women in Florida... with a special emphasis on Breast Cancer treatment". Come join us in the water or support our effort! You can invite others to participate on our team too.

If there is interest, in mid-April Margie has offered to host a drop-in beach day, with a group swim of the course in advance just for fun or even a stroke clinic. Click here to see Margie's personal page.
